Pro-dragon is considered by some to be too studly an advantage to give to the players; especially given that many of the SR's on level 10 are dragon types.
One of the modifications made after 1980 was to introduce "ring of pro-dragon" on the SR 4 list. This item used to be a "Sword +1 pro-dragon" which made running pro-dragon a lot more difficult choice when you had to give up your weapon-of-choice.
Many feel that even if the ring/pro-dragon should stay, it should be a lot more difficult to find than as an item on the SR list for level 4 (which is perhaps the easiest level to SR).
Hammer of Thunders is another item that gives pro-dragon, but it is an SR item from level 10 (14 Red Dragons) and is therefore a LOT more difficult to acquire, especially if you weren't running pro-dragon at the time!
A few players feel that ALL pro-dragon items should be removed from the game and that dragon encounters should always be quite nasty! I suspect that these people are in fact dragons in real life [does the humor come across here or do I just sound delusional? Delusional? Who's delusional? Shut up, I'm not talking to you]
Another solution that some have proposed would be to tweak the SR 10 list and replace some of the dragon encounters with tough non-dragons. This would address thee the concern that many feel that the SR 10 items are too easy to acquire when running pro-dragon.
What do you think?

This is one of those game balance issues that I believe a multi-prong approach is required. Start by replacing the pro-dragon ring with a sword +1 pro dragon on the level 4 SR table. Next move the pro-dragon ring to level 8 or below in the dungeon as a new SR. Finally, replace some of the dragon SR's on level 10 with other types of monsters. Currently approximately 1/3rd of the SR's on 10 are of the dragon variety.
On an aside once true auto-kill returns players will need to make a real choice between lower AC and pro-dragon. That is a good thing.

Well I'm a little irritated because I've hit the SR4 probably 75 times and I have 2 rings to show for it.
That's just bad luck, as I have found way more of everything else available on 4, including about 6 Staffs of Healing, 10 each of cloaks, leather, and chain, 5 Staff of Full-Raise, 7 Rejuvenation potions, yada yada yada.
Yes, SRing 4 is easy, but do you know how dull it is to have your lvl 63 Ranger and Sammy trudging around 4 just looking for rings? That seems like true Oub to me!! :-)

Yes, the ring-prodragon is a pretty moose item for a lvl 4 SR, but the first mean DragonSR is on lvl 5 (4Greens/Floating Blade {an Axe}), which can kill any lvl 63+ char that is not equipped with said ring. So even though this discussion is old compared to others in this forum, I am glad to have the several that I found on 4 while looking for Rejuv.

I voted Other Replace Ring with Sword Remove Hammer Rebalance SR10's to the pre 1983 lists (ie before they went dragon crazy)
Remove Cloak/Darkness
Return Hammer +3 to fight types only.
Return Crusaders Blade to fight types only Remove Blade of Death ( or tone it way down ) and you might be able to have a challenging game again.
right now it is so easy that your average AVATAR player can beat it.
