Some email discussions have been bouncing around over the last week or so about whether Courtesan/Thief should have an advantage over Samurai/Ninja.
IMHO; they should - the latter two classes have much better equipment. I gotta think there has to be some incentive to build/run court/thief other than that they build quickly...no?!

Court and Thief have the same multiplier as Ninja, so there is no class-based advantage in build-speed. However, build-speed is a huge side benefit of the the true advantage of the Court/Thief classes -- ease of rolling. And he're you're starting to mess with a pretty commonsense equation: the more work something takes, the better it is.
The real Thief/Court advantage is that they are much easier to roll than a good Ninja/Sammy -- you can roll up a Kobold Thief or a Pixie Court in about 5 minutes and you're on your way to build heaven. By way of contrast, races that have the high stats needed for rolling Ninja/Sammy have higher bases, and the chars are much harder to roll and take much longer to build. It took me about 9,000 strokes of the LAB key to roll a Hobbit Ninja. Yes, I counted, I'm a dork. The required 15 STR *alone* came up on only 3.5% of the rolls!
It is difficult to roll a primo char, and you should reap the benefits of your effort. Part of the game strategy is that he player decides how much effort he or she wants to dedicate to rolling. Some people would rather start with a char that's easier to roll and build, and by design this char should not be as studly as the char that is more difficult to roll and build. These kind of race/class decisions are one of the very cooool things about Oub.
In a nutshell -- you should get what you pay for. If a Thief that requires only a 12 Dex and can easily be rolled straight Kobold can compete with a Hobbit Ninja, THAT'S when something will be out of whack.
All that being said, another neat thing about Oub is the relatively large range of useful classes. I have always really liked the fact that so many of the classes have valuable attributes and that a party needs to have multiple character classes to be successful, and maximizing this aspect of the game promotes cooperative gameplay. So, if the Thief/Court classes become more desirable for reasons that do not narrow the leadership gap between them and the Ninja/Sammy classes, this would be very cool.
(as almost a side note, Courtesan has the -Q-, correct? I've never used it but I understand it's nice. )

Yep; Courts have the -Q- which at this point is about all makes them worthwhile. I don't disagree with any of the points you make. Courts/Thieves are definitely easier to build...However!
I believe that Courts right now no longer have AK which they did in the original. Also; thieves get blade/death while Court only has good looks and buddies - question: do Thieves get AK now?
I run slu-t; maxed Court swinging Vorpal and the most I've ever hit for is 22 per swing. And...the minor edge the court/thieves had for leader bonus was removed (if I hear correctly).
I think if/when AK is fully implemented, giving it back to Courtesan would make that class a valid pick (IMHO). Right now I just can't see why anyone would bother building one.
*sidenote - censorship! the board replaces my char name with "very *friendly* person" when spelled out.

Wow, 22 with a Vorp is pretty sad. At least she can equip it! :-)
Seems like Courts and Thieves should at least get a leader bonus. And we do want the classes to be playable options, so that when players are faced with choices such as the ones I outlined in my response, they are reasonable choices. Easier should be less studly, but should still be usable.
